Was down in Steveston to take in the Dragon boat races. On the way back I went down to the Fisherman's Wharf to check out the sockeye prices. Most boats were selling sockeyes for $20.00 each or 3 for $50.00. One boat was offering sockeyes for $15.00 A lot of people looking but not buying.

Picked up a dozen for $15/fish. Had to haggle a bit.

would it be reasonable to expect prices to go down after the Monday/Tuesday commercial opening? I was thinking of checking out the docks on Tuesday and pick some fresh fish if the price is right. Also, does anybody know if there's gonna be another opening anticipated for the late run or it's all up in the air? Thank you :)

You might be better to wait until it's close to time for them to freeze the fish - within 3 days of when they were caught - then offer to take more than 2 for $15.

picked up 4 at $15 each today. market price was $25 a fish, with $20 per fish for more than one. just got him to throw in a smaller one for the fourth fish and he was open to it. I suspect with the large commercial opening there will be more wiggle room shortly.

Only a few boats were selling sockeyes at the dock this afternoon. The fleet must be out fishing.  Very few people buying. Guess they're waiting for the prices to drop.

News from yesterday morning. Looks like they are catching them left and right.
Hopefully that means the prices should get better.  ;D

Nice 3/40 good deal.

I paid 14 per fish when i bought from a commercial fisherman.

I have to laugh at CList add that says " Fresh Sockeye just caught right off boat. Cleaned with head off $4.50 per lb.  ".
Using a average of 7lbs a fish that double what it should be.

I am tempted to get more ... I just need room in the freezer lol.

Update from the meeting last night

Can someone please tell me where area D and E are?

The next Area D gillnet fishery is planned for Saturday, August 30. Details
will be announced in a separate fishery notice.

The next Area E gillnet is planned for Tuesday, September 2. Details will be
announced in a separate fishery notice.
