i was originally (and still am) a member of 'the other' fishing site. i only found out about 'fwr' because of a bonehead thread that was posted to patronize the members of this site. (anyway, that was way back and water under the bridge, as far as i'm concerned).
since then, i've spent more time reading the posts here and am impressed with the level of comrodary and cooperation, that the members have displayed.
now everytime i go out and come across a friendly angler, i always wonder if he's (or she's) a member of this site.
i think it would help, if someone (Rodney or any other administrator) could come up with some kind of 'patch' or ensigma that can be sewn or worn to help identify members of this site.
i wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for something like that. it could even help break the ice and create an opportunity to get to know someone on a first name basis, rather than just trying to recognize a person from some 'face' on a photograph.
if something like that already exist, could some please let me know. :)

Oh my, now that you mentioned it, there is a patch! ;D
(http://www.fishingwithrod.com/shop/patch.jpg)
You can get it from me at the Vedder River Festival or other events ($8.00 each). Or you can download the order form (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/shop/patch.doc) and mail order it. ;)
-
I totally agree with that and I have said it before too. Quite often i'll be out there and fishing with someone that I think might be an FWR member so i'll just start talking loudly about something to see if anyone hears me or looks over in curiousity.
A patch on the ole waders or jacket would be kewl.

right on ;D but how come i haven't come across it on this site. am i blind? 8) or you just don't advertise? ???
-
Ya it's not advertised on the site yet. :) Soon... I bring it up in the forum once awhile.
-
i'm definitely gonna pick one up as soon as i get a chance. :)
-
I don't like that one so much. (not only because I don't like catching dolphin) but it's too old school. So I'm gonna design my own, something a little more plain but not, you know? Anyways Rodney, if I make my own I'll get permission to use it and I'll still give you the 8 bucks. This is my rough copy, I want something like this...

Eww even better, personalised...

Hey, how about a competition... best FWR logo, just for kicks, don't even have to use them, just to see what people can come up with. I dunno, just an idea, I'm bored.

Birdsnester, that patch is awsome.... great, straight forward design. Very nice. I'd be in for one of those for sure.

It's easy to recognize FWR members. They wear sickening yellow rain suits and stand on their heads when they catch a fish ;D
I like your design Bird. Simple and easily recognizeable.
Rod, I work in sales and marketing and I have to say that I will get one of your badges, but you should consider one that is simpler like Birds design. The only thing missing is something relating to fish.
-
Woah, woah! Hold on now. If I recall, there was much discussion on the current logo before it was made into a patch. While I'm personally not crazy over the current design, I don't hate it either. Let's keep the patch the way it is, at least for awhile. A little continuity would be good. After all, it's only been one year.
After awhile, a new design can be made. In that way, original members (at the time of the 1st. patch) can wear their original patches with pride.
If members wish to design their own patches, and wear them, I guess that's up to Rod. That would be expensive though for a small run.
Sorry BirdNester, I hate to be critical, but that design is neither modern nor original. Just text on a dark border. Sorry... :-\

Rodney,
Does the $8.00 cover the cost of the patch, or do some revenues go to enhancement etc.?
-
it's not a dolphin!!!
-
I'll make sure I have some cash for some patches.
I do like the one that Birdnester put together with the username one it!
-
What about former members who got dropped off the site and their trail is erased continuously? Can they wear a patch?
P.S. Why did the "Otto-MIA" thread disappeared?
-
Birdnester: Good design, your enthusiasm continues to amaze me. ;D However, I have several hundred patches to sell already, would like to get rid of all these before we start another designing contest. :) The patch actually looks better than in the pic, and it's not a dolphin, it's a carp (dolphins don't have gills. This fish lacks an adipose fin, but... could be a really really fat hatchery coho...). ;D
Grumman: The money does not go into enhancement yet, unless our effort to attend as many events as possible to teach kids fishing counts. ;D The current profit generated from the patches are used to run this forum actually. Well, sort of... I have to sell at least 25 patches per month if they need to cover the cost..... lol...
pinkwool: ex-members are welcome to wear the patch if they wish, they are also welcome to return to the forum unless they were banned. The Otto-MIA thread was pulled because all comments posted were mostly directed personally at another member or ex-member and we feel that kind of exchange can be done in private instead if wished.
-
;)birdnester what a awesome looking patch now i think we should adopt this one

Men in Black come by, erase their memories, and remove the patch :D

Here, here! I like the current patch for now. ;D
-
nice quote brian kind of uniqe and i agree the current patch we have should stay as its recognized all over the river ;D :D :D :D
-
Can't get enough of fishin'...go on the patch ;D
-
Nice patch Rod. How does one order a patch & is it embroidered. I ordered one from FishBC & it looks more like an iron-on....for $10. I collect fishing patches & have some for trades if anyone's interested.
-
I like that it says Beautiful British Columbia. :)
-
For those who don't like my patch I respect that. For those who do, I respect that. For anyone that thought I meant to disrespect Rod's patch, I didn't. As always I was just having some fun. As for my design, I was just that bored. But for the plain-ness of mine, I like it. I'm gonna try and incorporate a fish into it. Oh well, bored again.
Peace, love and happiness.

birdnester, great design. but for me, its not so much about the 'flash' that i'm after, as much as a way to identify our members. i've seen some pretty wicked designs from other sites, but because of the way their members misrepresents themselves, i wouldn't even use their patch to wipe my ..... glass cup with.
i would even encourage everyone to wear the 'fwr' patch, knowing that we could confidently approach one another and be comfortable in doing so.
-
Yeah there are some pretty great people on here.
RobertO
-
Not offended here Rob, it'll take a lot more to do that. ;D Any suggestion is great of course, that's how people improve. :) The design looks good, but maybe it can be the second version of FWR when the time is right. :) For now we'll just stick with this.
Great people in here? Like... big people like bigguy? Or accomplished fishers? ;D Or.... ;) Yep, fortunately there are many many keen participants in here who are willing to help newcomers such as yourself. :)
-
whats funny though, is that i've been fishing since i was a little boy. tidal, up until 3 years ago and freshwater since. i wouldn't be surprised if i've even spoken to some of you before and not know it.
-
Rod - Now that we are all clear on the fact that the original design will stay the same for the time being,
How can we go about purchasing one of these numbers from you?
Is it posible to have an icon on the front page with all the purchasing info?
From what I am reading I think you'll be able to sell a fair number of these, in the not to distance future.

BN. You're correct there are some really nice people on this board. And a few nut cases as well ;)

Fulcrum...everyone knows they just follow the stench of cigars to find you..... ;)

My Money is still more towards Beluga or Narwhal :D

Got my patches over the weekend. Nice to meet you Rodney! It was an expensive trip to Richmond -- went to Berry's afterwards and got a new mooching reel and other tackle ;D. Was looking at the Islanders but my wife intervened ;)
-
Nice meeting you and your wife Koho. :) Next time when you come up, I'll show you the Islanders and we'll try to convince your wife. :) And maybe you should plan the visit to coincide with the mid October Lower Fraser coho... 8)
-
I'll time it so we look at the reel right after she purchases something expensive ;D
And October fishing sounds great. It is my Mom's b-day in October or else Thankgiving holiday so we'll head up...
