Just a heads up to all, one of our long-time forum members Rick (Trophy Hunter) will be hosting a fall salmon fishing derby on the Vedder on October 6th this year. All the details have not been worked out yet, but if you are interested, please post a reply or vote in the poll. More details will be available as he works on this.
The registration will start at 7am at Fred's Custom Tackle and the weigh-in will be at 2:30pm at the Chilliwack Fish and Games Club House. There will be a BBQ with hamburgers and hot dogs for a $2 donation. There will be pop, hot chocolate, coffee etc. 50/50 draws will be held and for those who don't wish to partake in the derby they can still show up and buy raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes.
The derby prizes will be for the largest hatchery coho, largest chinook salmon and hidden weights.
The cost of entry is $35.00. You must have a valid freshwater fishing licence and salmon stamp.
A few words describing the charity/fund from Rick:
My nephew Rhys David Lewis was born on December 23rd 2008. He was born with Achondroplasia which is the most common type of dwarfism (a little person), he was the most amazing kid I have ever met. he was incredibly funny and out going, he loved all sports and he would walk around showing anyone who would look his skills.. he would show you how he throw a baseball, kicked a soccer ball or put up his little fists and show you how he could box... he lived for a short three and a half short years and touched the lives of everybody he met.
His mother Deena has set up a fund in his name (called the Rhys Lewis athletic legacy fund) all proceeds go towards promoting athletics for little people.

Hi Rick, thanks for putting this on. I can't definitely say I'll be there as I have to check my schedule with the wife and kids but I am sure going to try. I still have 2 or 3 hats from those Trophy Hunter Steelhead derbies you've put on over the years and I always had fun in those. It sure would be nice to enter a coho like that beauty 16 lber you saw me with last October.
And the proceeds are going towards a great cause so I just want to Thank You for organizing this.

So how was the turn out? Who won? Great day to get out.
-
Thanks for the hospitality, meet some people made up for the day. But I will defend my title of smallest spring a 3.10 pounds. Skill baby 8)
-
It turned out to be a fantastic day for the derby, the sun was shining and it was a warm 15 degrees throughout the day,
we ended up getting less than 30 entries but that makes sense when it it held on a long weekend and also while we were competing with another derby on the same river, this has been noted and next year the derby will be on a different weekend. Allthough we only had 30 fishermen enter, at times we had close to 80 people who came out to support the cause by buying raffle/50-50 tickets and enjoying a great BBQ lunch and good company !!
There were 7 fish weighed in ( apparently it was a very tough fishing day ) with largest Coho caught by Ian W weighing in at 9lb 1oz
