Title: Proposed Gravel Minning In The Chilliwack River Valley
Post by: chris gadsden on February 10, 2010, 10:53:57 PM
Received this info late tonight.

An Urgent Concern

Just to let you know there is a proposal for a large gravel mining operation
on Larson's Bench in the Chilliwack River Valley just south of Chilliwack
Lake Road, near Pierce Creek and the Trans Canada Trail.  It could have an
affect on habitat ponds on the lower Pierce Creek and the recreational
fishery.  It was referred to the FVRD for comment by the Ministry of Energy,
Mines and Petroleum Resources. There was also a legal notice in the news
paper. If you have comments they should be sent ASAP to Natural Resource
Officer, Integrated Land Management Bureau, 200 - 10428 153 Street, Surrey,
BC V3R 1E1.

My coments to this: I guess they are not satisfied  in compromising fish habitat on the Fraser River and the Vedder River with gravel extraction projects and now want to cause more damage to our fragile Chilliwack River Valley, First it was amendment 21 regarding increased logging activity and now this. Very depressing how this present government is acting towards the environment and our wild fish stocks. This may call for some groups to rally together to take some course of action to prevent this from happening.

I have now been informed this is an application from a private company which of course does not make it any more palatable to those of us concerned about the damage this could do.

Chris

If this application were to proceed, gravel mining run off could possible compromise water quality at the hatchery. Thanks for the info.

This is definitely not fish and river friendly. Comes time for a rally protest, we should do our share.

Good point. The Chilliwack River Hatchery may wish to direct their concerns to the Natural Resource
Officer, Integrated Land Management Bureau, 200 - 10428 153 Street, Surrey,
