Amundson sturgeon rods?
« on: August 29, 2018, 09:39:40 AM »

It's been awhile since I fished for sturgeon but back in the day I had a technium and an amundson and though the feel was not the same, for the price the amundson was a very serviceable rod fir my weekend warrior fishing.

I have noticed they changed (it's been at least 5 years for me) but the current rod seems to have a very beefy reel seat and seems like it would be up to the task. I'm looking at getting 2 setups going, so being able to save a bit on the rods would be good, if they are a good rod.

Anyone use the new ones? Or should I bite the bullet and get the techniums or is there a new kid in town?

Thanks guys, looking forward to getting back on the water!

I really dont know... the one I had treated me well, but that was definately a different model. Only rod I've broke on a sturgeon was a trophy, and it was used error and promptly replaced.

But this is why I thought I would ask first. They definately look robust, but that's without anyone on the other end.

Nothing beats the magnum for that price. I have 1 Tech and two Magnums. In my opinion they both play fish very well. The Tech is not worth the money.

Penn makes some nice big game rods.
They are shorter but make a great Sturgeon rod.
I prefer something around 6-6.5 ft and heavy weight as well.
They are actually Halibut rods but the Sturgeon dont know that.

Some great deals on ebay if your not in a rush and want multiple rods.
