Campbell River, August 23rd 2010
« on: August 26, 2010, 06:51:03 PM »

Had the privilege of doing "tyee" fishing by the Tyee club just outside of the Campbell River outflow on Monday night. One "tyee" caught (31 1/2 lbs) according to the club rules (rowboat/maximum 20lb line/artificial bait etc); but not by me. Next day I "floated" the Campbell river from below the dam for a couple of miles in a wetsuit and snorkeling gear. Apparently there are some 300,000 pinks in the system and at least 300 springs in the river. What a beautiful sight to see huge schools of pink just below the surface and surprising schools of large springs reminds me of how powerful they are (they look like small tuna underwater). Anyway lots of pinks being caught by the fishers as I was floating down the river.

Must be an interesting view of the river. I was surprised to see so many people snorkeling the river while I was pink fishing there. I would have been worried about getting hooked!
