Pretty sure that the harvest of these June Hogs would have resulted in the same fait for these fish. 2 million plus cans, wow!!! The Dams would not have helped for sure.

Those puppies used to travel all the way up the Columbia past Revelstoke and Golden to spawn just downstream of Lake Windermere north of the present town of Athalmer that used to be known as Salmonbed because of the numbers of huge chinook.  I have read of Hudson Bay fur records reporting large numbers of bear pelts from that region,  due undoubtedly to the attraction of the spawning salmon.

The Grand Coulee wiped out those runs in 1938.  I have wondered if the runs survived to that time in spite of the massive harvest or were they on the way down before the dam.

Some of the old timers when I lived in Chilliwack told me about a race of large chinook that spawned in the Frazer watershed. This could be just a  myth. I have seen pictures of the tinned salmon that came from the Frazer. The main stream isn't damned but how many big springs are left, let alone the other species of salmon.

Damn... reminds me of something I read a little while back about prehistoric salmon in the 300+ pound range.

I'm thinking the 3/0 might be fine but the 12lb leader might be stretching it a tad. :P
