Split shots for pools or deep runs, pencil lead for fast water.

Split shot 90% of the time. I find it easier as I can always add or subtract accordingly.

Pencil lead was always a hassle for me, so i just use splitshot. and like Bryan said, easy to add more or take some off.

ive found the split shot tends to tangle up more when i cast
so i stick to pecil lead and rubber tubing
i carry various sizes so its easy to change
maybe just maybe lol i do something wrong when i cast with split shot  ???

I think pencil lead works better with a baitcaster, and split shot is ideal for a centrepin. Because of the casting styles.

I use split shots 90% of the time too. I like the way you can modify your drift by just adding, substracting or even moving the split shots on your line.
I found that, even with a baitcaster, you can avoid to tangle up, by just moving them a bit.

split shots work great crimped directly to a 4/0 treble.  Get hook ups all the time ;D ;D ;D ;D
