Title: iPhone and FWR
Post by: iRobertO on August 01, 2010, 07:55:39 PM
Hello all,

Avid iPhone user/lover/supporter here, any others?
I have a question, any thoughts on making an FWR app? Does it already exist?
If not, does anyone on here have a favorite app to use that works well with this forum? I downloaded a 'forum viewing' app a long time ago, but it wasn't that great.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Ya I hear ya. Safari works good and I'm happy with web viewing on this phone, but text boxes (like the one I'm using to reply to this post), act kind of funny making it difficult sometimes.

Oh boy.. Here we go..
To avoid any unnecessary arguments, in my original post, please change iPhone to mobile device and change 'app' to thingy ma-jingy when reading..
PS: the video I took in HD landing 2 fish today worked well on my 'mobile device' :)

No apps for FWR yet. ;D All mobile devices should be turned off when you go fishing. ;D

I use tapatalk on my iPhone for browsing other sites and love it. So much easier to navigate and post from a mobile device. It is now available for blackberry, android and I think nokia. Would be great if rod were to enable this feature on the forum  ;D

I'd be much more interested in acquiring some kind of mobile jamming device! There are few things I find more irritating than some so-called fisherman 15 yards away on a formerly peaceful beach or stretch of river yakking away at the top of his lungs into a cell.  :(

I'm amazed at how quickly a thread can get hijacked.
I don't want the 'app' for the river. I want it because I use my iPhone more than my computer. I'm not lazy, technology evolved, that's all.

The iPhone and any of their products are where it's at in my books. People yacking on the phone while fishing is no worse than people on a phone while out dining, unless of course they're calling every person they know telling them that the guy across the river from them just hooked their third steelhead from say lickman road, that is a total pi** off. A lot of people out fishing have responsibilities that they can not escape such as kids and families. I have gone through tonnes of phones as well from the top of the line nokia phones back in the day to blackberries and now the iPhone, and I can say that the iPhone is the best by far I have had. There's no real need for a fwr app as fwr is pretty simple to browse quickly for anything new and the fact that you can set up notifications for emails of anything new in a thread that you've replied to or a thread that you're watching.

I'd love to see Rod add Tapatalk support. It's free and works on nearly the Smartphones out there.

I have a couple ideas for some fishing apps.

1. A GoFishBC stocking update app.
2. A Salmon Identification app.

Just my ideas...or 2 cents worth.

p.s. You don't have to worry about me chatting on my iPhone on the Chilliwack river. I usually fish above Tamahi and lose my signal way before I reach it. ;D

Just wondering if there ever was anything come of this?  Just got an iPhone a few weeks ago, and started using Tapatalk on other sites - is there anything similar for FWR (or does FWR work or can it or are there plans to use with Tapatalk??).

No unfortunately.  Rodney's too busy fishing (or trying to).   ;D ;D

Best way viewing on iphone for the forum is still through Safari.  Try it on a Blackberry and you'll appreciate how well Safari works.   ;)

Rodney since this forum is powered by Simplemachine 1.1.11.  You can enable Tapatalk and iPhone users can browse through forum section easier.

I too have been trying to access FWR from my Android phone but I keep getting an error message.

The message is:

Unable to load the 'wap2_above' template.

Looks like some file is missing.

My phone uses the Mozilla 5.0 browser.

Use the standard Android browser and it works fine. I run 2.2 Froyo on an HTC Desire.

I get this same error with by Blackberry browser. The Bolt browser works okay, but it tends to reboot my phone at random.

Two apps I enjoy using:'

Sunrise Sunset Lite by Kekoa Vincent
a free app. that tells me the time of sunrise and sunset.

tideApp by Atlantis Technology
a free app. that tells you the time of high and low tides.  This app. is kind of buggy.

I don't use these while fishing, of course, but they do help my plan my fishing day.

Firefox Mini works okay on Blackberry also, you might want to give that a try.   Opera has a mobile version that works with BB too but it sucks.

Rodney doesn't need to do anything with the site in order for access via smartphone. I have an iPhone myself and it works fine as I have the link saved in a folder but if you're too lazy to even do that, you can also create a mini App like link with an icon that makes it a 1 touch link to get onto FWR main page or any desired page on FWR.

Is society really becoming that lazy that we have to have an App for everything? ;)

It's not the lazy, it's the A) Speed and B) amount of data transfer.  I can see the site on my phone, but all the extra graphics and ad graphics (I don't mind them online as they generate Rod's income BUT darned if i'm paying for data usage for them!!).

I usually read on the puter, but when i'm in a line waiting or whatever, nice to pull out the phone and read posts - i'd like them to be from here, but i read forums on my phone thru the app.

I'd slam you about the lazy part of your post, but I'll wait for someone to write an app for that!  ;D
