It will be interesting to see what numbers they come up with for spawner surveys in the Upper Fraser....

At 34 million estimated, this means roughly 1% mortality due to recreational fishing.. Imagine all those people you saw this year lining the bars.. and only 1% of the run.

Wouldn't it be amazing to see this every year?

Only 1200 people fishing during the first week of the sockeye opening?

Half of them were at Pegleg!

I think the mortality from rec fishing is higher than 1%. If you are taking the 1% mortality form the catch and release study. That 1% is based on what died in a pen after 24 hours and being handled very gingerly.

But it's a start.

Hopefully soon the telemetry data will be published and one will see a somewhat different number, depending on water temp, time of year, and maybe even a stock difference.

Yes it would be absolutely amazing if we saw numbers like this past year...every year!
But personally after seeing how "people" behave I'm not sure "we" deserve it.
