Vacuum sealing in Chilliwack?
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:06:46 PM »

Does anyone know anywhere in Chilliwack that one could get his fish vac sealed?

I will be there for a fishing trip From Oct 17th -20th and would like to vac seal my fish if possible so that they keep ok in the cooler on ice until I get back home on 20th or 21st....or do you think they will be fine just in the cooler on lots of ice until I get home and in the freezer?

Cheers :)

If you keep the fish on ice for the 3 days you should be fine.

"Salmon and other fish begin to lose quality as soon as they die, but will retain high quality for about 9 days at 32°F.  Fish held for 14 days at 32°F are equal in quality to fish held for only 2½ days at 60°F. For each hour fish are held at 60 F , about six hours of refrigerated shelf life is lost."

This is taken from the following article on Recommended Procedures for Handling Troll-Caught Salmon.
