I m so happy to hear this story. Closed pen farming is much more safe and substains the natural salmon stocks. Thank you safeway!!!!!

Good news! Safeway's Canadian assets were recently sold to Sobeys and they probably had a lot of influence as they also have the same program in place. (farmfisherbawb is having a fit right now ;))

Haha Bonkers, this does not bother me at all. I only buy Alaska farmed salmon when I am out of my wild caught. :) Save the wild Sockeye by only buying wild Sockeye? Please explain that thinking to me lol. :)

No, but when a large chain is starting to not sell frankenfish, it shows that they have issues with the way the feedlots are run. They do indeed carry farmed fish, but not the ocean polluting  feedlot crap.

The way I see it is this. Haveing open pen fish farms, breeds a lot of concentrated disease which then trnafers to other fish stocks such as sockeye salmon. The area underneath and open pen, is an ecological disaster. With Safeway only selling closed pen farmed salmon, this not only alleviates some of the above issues, but it also puts less demand on the commercial fisherman for the wild stocks, as companies have a steady farmed supply in which a steady price can be negotiated. Consumers themselves for the most part are driven by price and availabilty, this isnt everyone of course. But all those people that would buy farmed salmon at safeway now are maing a slighty better choice.
Seems like a win win for the wild stocks

Alright !
Do shop at Safeway for their " big green lettuce" $1.65 ,yes expensive but ya have trouble getting it in the plastic bag. The lettuce is huge.
Also great place to get wieners without nitrate.
Wonder if they would sell the farm fish from Israel ?
Very healthy the way they do it.

The farmed fish part is about 1/2 thru the vid.

They use NO chemicals & put the fish waste on plants & also should say it is an inland fish farm.
