Just read about it on the web. There are big runs of this Salmon in northeast china and eastern russia, but i have never seen any of this in BC?
-
Looks like a brown trout. they do run to the sea and back in some places (even in BC but there is only one river I have heard of).
-
I think there Cherry salmon.
-
If they are a Pacific salmon then they would be a masu. it's the only Pacific salmon that that doesn't have spawning grounds in North America's west coast.

Was that caught off of the dock she is standing on ? Very nice and super chrome !
Where in Asia is this photo taken ?
-
Is that in Hokaido?

Atlantic's

Atlantic's
Atlantics have black spots on the gill plates.
-
I heard of a Masu salmon taken in the Cowichan River one time-must have had his wires crossed. :o

Atlantic's
Being originally from the east coast and having caught many... that is was I thought as well. In full spawn though.
-
I know my fish, I have caught atlantics in spawning colours.
But just google "atlantic salmon " and click images that pic is on the first page that comes up.
-
I googled "fish in China" and came up with this rather unwholesome looking pair.

I think I'd pass on a meal like that. They probably are good though, chewy but tasty.
-
Another vote for Atlantics. Masu while spawning turn black with a orange tiger stripe similar to the purple ones chums get.
-
maybe taimen salmon?
-
Def atlantics can tell by that weird upper jaw they got going kinda round`ish.
-
Another vote for Atlantic salmon. Wonder if they could bring Masu salmon to raise in net pen fisheries as at least they are 'indigenous' to pacific ocean waters, but not this coast though.
-
I thought that Masu and Chum were the same fish. That is why Asians love chum so much.
-
If they are in Continental Asia they would be called:
- Oncorhynchus masou (Scientific name)
- Cherry salmon (English name)
- Sakuramasu (Japanese name)
- Simayeoneo (Korean Name)
- Sima (Russian name)
However, the picture does not match the any Sima Salmon that I have seen.

atlantics

There was a Canadian Geographic cover shot a few years ago of Atlantics in the St. Lawrence - they looked exactly like that. Ugly.
I remember when a group of Japanese hatchery workers visited us at the Capilano Hatchery, they brought smoked and fresh Cherry salmon with them.
