Title: Ucluelet Fishing Report - Big Bank Full of Herring
Post by: Murphy Sportfishing on June 04, 2015, 09:20:20 PM
We are in a big swinging tide phase which is starting to level out, so the next week will be even better. Limits of Chinook are the norm in the high teens and occasional bigger one Lots of chicken Halibut.  The halibut have been trolled up while fishing for Salmon.

The fishing on the inside and at the edge of Barkley Sound has thinned a little so we have been out on the big bank where it is teaming with mas marked hatchery clones up to twenty pounds.

The area is loaded with big herring and you can see it on the sounder at varying depths. Regardless of the bait balls, the very bottom has been the most productive fishing 200-250 feet deep.

Fishing that deep means leave the anchovies in the bait box because strike detection can be missed and have a kinked anchovy is no way to troll around!

Fully rotating flashers (Highliner) with spoons have been the best bet. The best colors have been red, green and purple.  These fish are not that finicky so what is key is keeping the gear in action.

Some great reports coming out of the North end of the island including Kyuquot so the fish are on their way.

Look for some excellent tides coming in the next four days which should heat up the fishing action. But the downside is that the clouds are clearing and the heat is coming which means the Westerly winds will be kicking back up in the afternoons.
