Lower Mainland beach, July 4th 2011
« on: July 06, 2011, 11:22:24 PM »

Headed out to the beach to fish the evening flood tide on a glorious summer evening for our native coastal cutthroat trout. Slight chop on the water however conditions were good with some wrack in the water, but which got less as the tide neared high slack.

In just over 2 hours of fishing I hooked 6 and landed 2 (3 if you count losing one just as I was netting it). Biggest I landed was a 14-15" wild that did tons of arials on top of the water. Very entertaining...and very unlike a cutt. Two of the ones that I lost were that size again, or bigger; one of which came 3 feet straight up out of the water and spit the hook.

Haven't hooked this many cutts in one evening for several years, and good sized ones too, which was encouraging to see. Either I hit a pod of cutts, or they turned on after sunset because I hit my last 4 fish after the sun had set in the space of less than half an hour off the same rock. Tide had turned and was strongly ebbing too.

A very pleasant and enjoyable evening on a lot of different levels.

That sounds as good as a day of fishing gets.  Are you sure it wasn't a dream?!  ;)
