Title: Vancouver Island- where to fish, where to stay..
Post by: Tom on August 27, 2005, 11:44:26 AM
Hi guys.

We are 3 fishermen from Denmark, arriving til B.C. fra the 10. of october and to weeks ahead. I fished the Vedder at Chilliwack for 2 years ago. We'll be fishing the Vedder for 5 days, and then go to Vancouver Island. So my question is; where should we go for fishing, and where should we stay. We are flyfishing and spinning, and want to fish in the Rivers. But which? We are going for Kings and Cohos. I've heard of Campell River and Gold River, but dont know where to fish in those rivers. And I guess there are several other Rivers with excellent salmonfishing!?
And to the question where to stay...we would like to stay in Bed & Breakfast, sorts of cabins or so...something cheap and not to far from the river.

I'm hoping to hear from some of You - and looking forward to visit Vancouver Island.

Knaek og Braek / Tight Lines,

Tom, Denmark.

Hej Tom :)

My knowledge of fall fishing on Vancouver Island is minimal, but I just want to tell you that Iron Noggin on this forum should be able to provide you some information. Old Brown Dog may also provide you with some information on beach fishing for salmon as well. What days will you be fishing the Vedder River?

Hi Tom,

Nice to see more danes on the forum; we have a few now  ;)

I just returned to Denmark today after a 3 months stay over there  :P

Take a look around the main web site, there should be a few articles about fishing in the Vedder.

I hope you and your friends have a good trip to Canada!

The Stamp River should be producing cohos and chinooks around that time.

when i stayed in saratoga 2 weeks ago, i fished the oyster and surrounding ares. the "oyster river" wont be producing much right now with all the swimmers in the river at this time. u might see the odd pink in the actual river, but fishing around the mouth of the river is very prodcutive right now on the fly.although it is very good at the mouth, on the incoming tide, tons of weeds get wrapped in your line. dont use spoons or spinners, cause the weeds just get caught on it. for coho there, wait til about mid-sept for good action.

i would strongly suggest the actual campbell river for lotsa nice pinks, the odd summer-steel and some cutties
