Title: womens fishing clubs???
Post by: allwaysfishin on April 21, 2005, 05:31:31 PM
a girl I fish with ( she's mid 30's) is always askin me if I know any other local gals ( lower mainland) that are into river fishing and other types of fishing locally. She's always eager to go and ... damn she's got more drive to fish from dusk till dawn than most guys I know. I'm always willing to go but not always able.
now I know most guys here will jump and say "well gee I'll take her out" , but she has numerous guys to fish with.
so anyone know of a local group of women or just women who are looking for other gals to fish with???
I can pass emails on to her or whatever.
she's got lot's of experience and is a damn fine rod.

I think Kathy Ruddick (sp ?) does somethign catering towards the famale population of anglers, tying lessons, casting sessions, that sort of thing I think.

Give them a call, and/or visit http://www.rudfly.com/index.php

There was a group called the "FLy Girls" as I recall...as the name implies tho, fly fishing, not float.

I know we've got a few here.  Fishin' Chick comes immediately to mind as someone who isn't in Denmark ;)  My wife asked the same question about lack of female fishermen (Yes, I know that's not the PC word...I don't care).

Don't judge a person's sex by their handle ! There may be more women fishers on this board than you might think.

There are quite a few female members on this board:

Nina
Fishin Chick
FishingLady
Willowbarkus (also from FishBC)
FisherWife
Stormy
buckwife
north

Maybe you should all get together and start a fishing club. ;)

This is an old number but give it a try, Fran (you can contact me via PM for the number). One real fun group she might like to touch base with over the net is Sisters on the fly.

You guys need to read Reel Women and a few of Joan Wulff's books. As for ladies in the sport; I have found 1 in 7 of my students is a lady. Nice to see it catching on. Next we need the whole family.   Oh yah let's not forget the very first recorded text on sport fishing was writen by; Guess Who? Dame Juliana Burners in the 1400's.

Hmm, I guess we won't be seeing Buckeye for awhile with a fishing rod... but we'll probably see him more often on here. ;)

hey Deb. I know, you and the other two gals are part of the "cool good natured" crowd from that other site  ;D
i'll pass your email on to barb. she's not so much a fly girl, but my god you should see that girl use a baitcaster.
maybe she can be converted to a part time flyfisher too.

Cranky people in the cyber space? No... No such things... ;)

Thanks Deb, if the girls of the two forum get together, you can easily form a fishing club.

For ideas, go to Chicks who fish dot com (http://www.chickswhofish.com/).

Cool link Rod, thanks.   Running a fishing club would be a whole lot of work I would think.

Tell Barb not to worry.  Tina can chuck a pretty good baitcaster herself.  We're not exactly fly-only elitists.   Well I am, but the other two just make fun of me for it ::)

cheers,
Deb
