Tofino Offshore - Sept 15,16
« on: September 18, 2007, 12:10:00 PM »

Went offshore fishing in Tofino this past weekend. We were between 16 and 20 miles offshore fishing 'the gap' and 'the pools'. The guy we were fishing with said it was the worst 2 days he has had all summer long.  We got a 34lb Chinook in the boat, 3 Coho's larger than 10lbs and 18lb Chum, all in about 4 hours on Saturday.  The guys I were fishing with lost at least another 5+ Coho's and we released 3 wild Coho's.  The largest fish caught by any of the guide boats was a 40lber. On Sunday the seas picked up a little so we decided to back troll for Halibut.  We landed quite the mixed bag of fish including some Dog Fish, Rock Fish, a variety of different cod, a flounder and 5 Halibut. The largest Hali was 20lbs and the rest fell in around 15lbs.

The inshore fisherman casting with the flys had a great day Sunday landing 9 Cohos on a 5/6 weight setup.

The Salmon retained by the group. Note the wild Coho on the bottom was caught INSIDE in Tofino.

Theres 3of the 4 Halibut and the Flounder, the largest was hanging on the scale.

The other guys have some better pics, will post once I get.

Man that chum sticks out like a sore thumb...that thing isn't anywhere close to its natal river and its starting to turn color already!
