Has anyone been to the squamish lately?
Just wondering if they will be opening for chums. The numbers are up for the fraser, but there is not a lot of info on the squamish.
Maybe(hopefully) they rebound like the pinks did there.
Any info would be appreciated. I noticed commercial openings for chum in a lot of the other ocean areas(commercialy)

It's still too early to tell. An in-season decision will be made later in the season. With the low numbers trending for that season, an opening is unlikely.

Personally, I hope it doesn't open at all even if more show up than usual... chum in squamish still need time to recover.

just hit up the stave for chum. I'd rather not fish the squamish because of the previous the poor returns

pffff not much here, floated a jig for two hours got 1,  Go home no fish here.

Yep, a friend reported poor fishing. Some zombies, a few tight lipped springs and the odd coho if your lucky. The only fish he saw caught today was a small coho.

Currently there are very few coho unless you target the spawning fish further up, which would be pretty bad form.

Based on the numbers I have seen and/or heard about, the ratio seams to be at least 10 wild to 1 hatchery or possibly more like 20:1.  So even when fresh running your odds are pretty low.

Yes, you guys are right , in total 19 coho in two weekends, no one hatchery marked  :-\
I guess, didn't get twentieth, which definitely shall be hatchery marked  ;)

By the way, it was total fun, fishing between floating ice (last Sunday)  ;D

Later run fish seem to mostly be wilds, odd hatchery fish but don't get your hopes up.

It is good to hear that coho have returned to the Squamish in reasonable numbers. When I lived there in the 1970s we could always catch a limit of fresh fish in October and early November. If we got a break in the weather we could always catch Bull trout in the winter. There were side channels off the main-stem river where the coho spawned, but excessive logging wiped them out after every heavy rain. The government was never interested in protecting those crucial places.
