The survey is ok to do but a letter has more impact. I just got back from the Island and was disappointed to see only one more letter with the total now at 14. The last writen by one of our 17 year old members was very well done and well thought out. Thanks very much Aaron.

I thought we would have generated more letters which we needed so badly, very badly to continue this ongoing battle to save our fishing opportunities and our precious salmon.

I will be a bit blunt here but I quess the cause is not that important to the majority of anglers. We will carry on but one day we will run out of steam just like we will run out of fish if we do not fight back to curtail this illegal fishing that is so rampant right now.

We had two airplane flights this week financed by SDA and the drift netting was continuing during the closed times. ???

This will be the last desperate call for a few more letters, please  try to find the time.

I wrote mine a few days ago.  Chris, just a suggestion.  The tackle stores did that during the steelhead stocking 'war'.  I have seen one standard letter preprinted on a sheet, and people just picked it up at the stores and signed their name and contact info.  I guess most people are a bit lazy or don't know how to lay the letter out.  If you don't mind the variation in content, perhaps just draft up a standard letter, post it here and instruct people to copy & paste to their emails with their name & contact info.  At least this will increase the number of names and letters.  Just a suggestion.

A good suggestion Funfish and I was the one with my sons that looked after the steelhead one. We mailed hundred's in, each in a indiviual envelope with the Fraser Salmon Society paying the postage.

It was a lot of work for us delivering the letters to the sports shop, and then picking them up along with then licking hundreds of envelopes. Can still taste the glue.

In this day and age with computers it is so easy to write a letter and Rodney has it all set up. The big thing if people are really interested in helping and are concerned they should take the time to write, the option is theirs. As I said above maybe a lot of people do not care that much and that is why we have recieved so few letters. There is still a little time so that is a positive and we may get some more.

fourteen ******* letters...  >:( >:(

Actually 16 as I sent in two and I believe maybe a couple went in and were not sent to letter@fishingwithrod.com.

If anyone that sent them to the Minister or any other Government official if they could send them to me that would be great as we need them for our records.

Chris, great to know that you were the good Samaritan of the steelhead 'war'.  My salute to you again for the good work now & then.

Fulcrum, obviously the meatheads on this site have only one thing on their minds, Kill more sockeye, Kill more sockeye, Kill more sockeye. They don't have time to write a simple letter either because they are sleeping(to get up at 2 to go BB) or they just don't give a ****! Its pathetic isn't it. Over 700 members and 14 replies. Horrible >:( >:(
Please do, we have our next meeting in a few days to continue planning "Operation Barby"

Man you guys get discourage quickly, there alot more action happening out there than you know about. I have a large circle of contacts that have the same concerns about the abuse on the river. They have sent letters to Ottawa  way before it was a major topic on this site, and this is not the first  time we have sent them.

We are not discouraged , we are just trying to get anglers to realize how important the issues are and how letters is one way concerned citizens can help.

We through the Fraser Valley Salmon Society the last 20 years and the Sports Fishing Defense Alliance the last 5 or so have been fighting this and other battles to obtain fair fishing opportunities for the recreational angler while at the same time protect our fragile fish stocks.

We also are trying to make FOC, our elected Federal Government and in this case the RCMP that they are given the mandate to enforce the laws which they are not doing on the Fraser River.

I am glad you have a circle of friends who have and I am sure are now writing more letters to Regan and others. If you possiblity can have the writers send these letters to letter@fishingwithrod.com .That would be great as they can be used in our campaign as well.

This way they are more effectivec as we can tell FOC and others we have hundreds of letters in our files of concerned people about this issue.

Otherwise the politicans think no one knows how many letters they are getting so maybe the problems and the writers concerns will go away and be forgotten.

I tend to think time and public apathy sometimes is a politican best ally.

We are working on not letting that happen , will we be successful, well I hope so but we will not be accussed of not trying.

If you can gather some of your friends letters together that will be a great in helping  us and of course the salmon we are fighting to protect.

Please pass our thanks on to your friends for their concerns and their letter writing and hope to be able to receive some of them also in this very important issue.

I read the survey and I just don't get the point in telling the fishery minister my veiws on homosexual marrage and dope smoking?

Am I not just falling for their con?  Filling out their survey in hopes they read my notes on the state of the west coast fishery.

Only to have them state later that X amount of Canadians are very concerned about the issues in the survey proven by the tremendous response to the survey itsself.

And therefore on the strength on the survey and other surveys like it ... Paulie M. and the boys will fund a program to deal with the issues on the survey. Using funds that would be better spent on the west coast fishery.

Na when I see crap like this I do not fill in the survey... I ignore it.

Iam writing one up, although iam not too good at this type of thing il give it a go :)
That is ok Matt as one written from the heart is what we want, just express your feeling. Any letter written is a lot better than one that is not written. Thanks in advance for your letter.
