Hayward is open right upto the parking lot of the stave. The dam is closed as that is where they are doing the siesmic upgrades.

The hatchery is doing very well with the coho as well as the springs and jack springs. On friday they got over 70 coho and on tuesday they got in the mid thirties. The springs they usually only take 4 males and 4 females and they collect the eggs right there and milk the bucks as well .This is with only two sets with the net. They are only there about 1.5 hours and the netting is done in 20min. They show up around 9:30 and are usually leaving by 11ish . By the afternoon the toilet bowl is back in action.

I believe i saw you there friday flyguy..and may of talked to you.. :P Just recognized the face now ;D

Was that you chucking spoons at the boat launch and you where with a guy chucking flies to your right. I thought that was you but was not sure.

Hooked and lost to coho where the back channel meets the main channel. Also got some clean chum there as well. Great spot to chuck flies especially on the low tide.

If it looks like a tomato let it go, if its bright silver and the adipose fin is clipped keep it.

Most of the fish you catch right now are very fresh. In the next few weeks, you will start seeing more coloured coho salmon. Keeping those are not recommended. This one is just starting to colour.

You want to keep ones that look like these. ;)

it's raining now so the water level will be too high on the stave tommorow? I not sure if I should go. Probably should wait and see if it's raining in the morning.

I caught 3 fish in an hour. All Have been released.

I forgot my flies at home  :-[ so i borrowed my wifes spin casting rod.  :)

I'm not sure what I caught but I think it was a chum.
Why do I hear chum is only good for the smoker? Meat is not good?

There are thousands of dieing fish near shore and in this stream. Hungry?

Fight is on!!

The fish did not want to give up. After about 5 minutes the fish decided to run straigh downstream and striped about 90 yrads of line.

chum or coho?

Don't bite my fingers off! :o

thats a chum.

most people don't care for chum they are umm very flavorful? if you do get a chrome chum they can be OK if they are smoked.you can have it with cream cheese and crackers in small thin strips.

some people also call them toxic tigers (because of the stripes) and i will use a Buddy's words to say he became " a human straw for a few days" if you get my meaning. ;)
