Flying Ant's
« on: August 29, 2005, 10:41:41 AM »

Went out on sunday and the lake was covered with ants. Nearly imposable to get any strikes even with a fairly close ant pattern. I'm know that when fish feed on water boatmen or backswimers they go off there feed for a few days.  It's the thrid time this year its happend, any suggestions.

Try skating your pattern to draw their attention. I have found that fish often like to grab the one trying to get away first.

Apparently the black ant hatch can be a magical thing on a lake.  I've not had the chance yet.

its the same thing with ants they eat as much ants as possible and the acids in the ants make them not feed for a few days

The challenge then is to hit them at the beginning of a hatch.  Probably make for a 100+ fish day if timed right!

Trout go absolutely go nuts for these flying ants! Ants contain high levels of formic acid, which must taste like candy to trout....

I'd love to fish an ant hatch, only flying ants are the second creepiest things on the planet, right behind earwigs.... you'll never catch Marmot on the lake fishing when theres the chance that one of those things could land anywhere near me!  EEEEWWWWW!!!!  Make that third creepiest , second place being stinkbugs when its really hot out.
