My youngest daughter did that for me once. A few years back when Bruce Masterman (readers digest) was out here to write the story on the youth fly fishing club, we took him Chum fishing on the Stave. At the river when we were suiting up my youngest slamed the car door one of my rods and broke of the tip. My wife began to scold my youngest but I stopped her saying it wasn't a problem because I could fix it (true). Not 10 minutes later my youngest did it again this time snaping the same rod just below the ferral. My responce this time was "I can't fix it now!" Not wanting to put a negative slant on the day I shrugged it of and continued on with the day. The lesson here; rods get broken so take a second and if possible a third. Also stick with the ones you can afford to replace.

Right on Canoe boy! That is the kind of story I enjoy reading; giving a first and or best fish to a mentor is a right of passage to becoming a true sage of the angler's art.

That's a good one Jack. I like it, but no I catch all the fish my family needs myself. I kind of like the tradition that my first nation freinds follow of giving first to the elders who are too old & frail to get their own. As for my students I know I have done my job when they out fish me.
