Rodney, hope you can cover it this year with pictures and a recap as I will not be able to this year.
-
Are tickets available until Thursday or Saturday (Dec 24). I was planning on heading out on Christmas Eve (Saturday) to get a lay of the river and would like to pick up my ticket then to avoid a line on Boxing Day but if I can't I can't.

Ah, the Boxing Day derby … lots of great memories over more than 50 years.
- Being the only Junior entered back in the early 60’s and breaking off a fish of about 8 freak’n lbs! I cried, and never, ever bought that cheap Army and Navy blue line again.
- In the mid 70’s losing a huge, huge fish after fighting and following it about 20 minutes. The winner that year was 14 lbs; mine was far larger and it fell off. I got totally drunk by 11 am and embarrassed myself big time; I was thrown in the back of a pick up in the pouring rain to sober up and … I deserved it.
- Entering 3 fish over the years that didn’t place in the prize winners, but fishing with anglers who did cash in. We fished together and were there for each other; no jealousy.
- Hanging out with the Vedder legends, the old timers I considered experts; drinking rye straight from the bottle with them, and most importantly to me, being accepted as a decent angler.
Good times indeed. Good luck entrants!

I never knew this about you. :P You should enter again and maybe take home the coveted Ferguson Furnell Perpetual Trophy as there is a lot of history there too.

I'm fishing this for the first time this year, not totally sure what to expect, but as someone who hasnt fished the vedder much and still in the process of learning to swing flies for steelhead i thought it may be a great opportunity to watch some of the experts.
Also going to give me a chance to test out the new waders my wife and kids are getting me for christmas!

Love this derby to kick off the steelhead season, but the prizes are kind of lacking. I wish they would hand out a small trophy for the contending fish instead of a lame coffee mug... Always a good time.
-
Good luck to all those heading out tomorrow.
Have fun stay safe and be respectfull of others .

It's all about raising money for conservation, not raising money for prizes. A coffee mug is a great trophy in the eyes of the beholder. And you could be in the position I'm in having to work........ :o

A trophy? You want a trophy? Seems to me you are missing the true meaning of the derby...
-
Any results? Any fish? Any trophies for second place this year?
-
I love my coffee mug! It's a functional trophy! 8)

Nice - with all the years I entered, I wish I was fortunate enough to qualify for coffee mug.

I heard 15 weight in.

Congratulations to our good friend Rod Toth for winning this year's derby.

I think most would rather leave with a small fishing throphy, I could care less about a prize. Would look good on the mantle. ;D

Way to go Rod. :)

Looks like santa came a day late this year, congrats! :D

Well here's your chance to step up to the plate and donate the trophies! The money raised goes to conservation, not to a whine tasting club..... ;) ;D
-
I'm already in the wine tasting club. Why isn't wine served at the derby? Alright, I'm going out there to catch my own throphy now!

Actually the club has not spent a penny on any conservation effort in quite a few years but hopefully that is about to change ;)

How many were entered in the derby this year?
-
278.
-
I think that is the most number of steelies entered the contest in a number of years. Last year there were 10 i believe. Glad for Rod. Might increase his "jig sales"....

Was he using one of his jigs?
-
Lol I won the 50/50 draw 2nd year in a row, see if I can weigh one in next year. Good Derby all in all!

I remember one crazy year long time ago with 30 fish weighed in. Can someone confirm that? That has got to be the most ever.

Big Fisher posted these number a while ago. If you go to the Chilliwack Progress Archives and put in Boxing Day Steelhead Derby you should find some stories and numbers.
