thompson river
« on: October 15, 2014, 08:42:41 AM »

Having a tough time figuring out what the deal is with the thompson this year. Is the river currently open for steelhead fishing ? Was hoping to make it out this weekend .

The entire river is closed from November 1st on to April 30th.

From there the river not between the CNR bridge downstream of the deadman and the CNR brisge upstream of the Bonaparte is closed till may 31st...

Thompson remains open until October 31st, at which point an in season decision will be made whether or not to extend it until December 31st.

Bait ban during steelhead season from now on going forward.

Hook size restriction also during steelhead season - must be less than 15mm  from tip to shank. In otherwords, it is unlawful to fish with a hook greater than 2/0 during steelhead season. So be sure to switch out the standard hooks on some of the larger spoons.

springs and socks are open until oct 2oth.  most socks are on and through now...odd straggler.  but surprising to me that springs are in the river.  whites and appear to be thompson main stem spawners?  bait ban in affect and hook size restriction.

anyhow, those that jig fish can catch a spring or two and do not be surprised at an elusive steel as well.
