I am wondering about the ratio of salmon clips and steelhead clips by species
I haven't looked around to much about this due to my schedule. *though these ideas are always distracting me from my schoolwork.*
Some say that they release around a million clipped coho
about a hundred thousand  clipped steelhead
and for springs? i have witnessed one caught but have not heard if there is an ongoing program for them.

Are the numbers that i have heard accurate? or is there an entirely different set of numbers?


one last question. . .
Is there a way to help clip the hatchery fins? if so what link would get me to the right people to discuss this with.

Anyone have any information on why they release such low numbers of steelhead  compared to other types?
is this due to the available spwaning areas for each fish?

Here's some ideas that come to mind:
---the ecology of the river can only handle so many fish, as steeelhead require more space to spawn and what not.
---they don't want to pull X number of wild spawners out to spawn artificially [some will argue the 'wild' genepool is diluted bc of intensive hatch augmentation over time]
---funding - it costs money to feed the fish and pay the staff to do the hatchery duties - as we all know the government clearly hates fish and is slashing funds/changing rules which results in reduced fish production

The difference in production is also due to the fact that salmon and steelhead are managed by two different jurisdictions. Salmon are funded by Federal while steelhead are funded by provincial, and their management objectives are also quite different.
