any one know what rivers the chum are in on the island? I live near the cowichan but can travel.

Look through the regs and see whats open is your best bet, if you want to keep some.
There should be chum in just about every river right now.
Mid island is fishing well, if you can find a spot to fish.
Rivers are very high right now though.

Most but the Puntledge and Nitinat come to mind as worthy of consideration. The Nitinat road has some potholes.  From your location it is straight through along Cowichan Lake.  My preference is the Youbou side based on road conditions several years ago.  The Sturgeon Pool is a good place to start.

Take bear banger and spray.  The lower Nitinat valley is a no shooting zone so there are bears in abundance.  (Also elk and wolves.)

I'm Going to be releasing any fish I catch for sure. And I will try the cowichan next weekend thanks.

I can vouch for the puntledge fishing well, lots of fish but not a whole lot of room to fish, river is raging.
Keeping my fingers crossed it comes down a bit, soon.
Weather doesnt look to good for that to happen hehe

I've been hearing some good reports for the Nanaimo River too.  Not a long haul from the Cow.
