Fly Fishing Canada is currently seeking young, avid fly fishers between the ages of 13 – 18 that are interested in trying out for a spot on the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team. Members of our national teams travel the world to compete and represent Canada at national and international competitions and conservation symposiums. A program that has recently been implemented by Fly Fishing Canada is hoping to pair young, upcoming fly fishers with seasoned-members of our national teams, in order to mentor and groom them for international competitions.

Todd Oishi, Fly fishing Canada’s chairman of national competitions and the youth fly fishing team's assistant coach, will be holding clinics and evaluations in the Lowermainland area of British Columbia over the coming months, and will be forwarding his recommendations to the head coach of the national youth team. Oishi is no stranger to the international stage, having competed with Team Canada at the World Championships of Fly Fishing five times. These international fly fishing competitions have provided him with the opportunity to learn new techniques, network with fishermen from all over the world and discuss conservation-related issues and concerns. Those opportunities exist for the next generation of anglers and can be a very positive experience.

Please contact Todd Oishi by email at: todd@bcflyfishingadventures.com if you or someone that you know might be interested in trying out for a spot on the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team or for information on becoming a sponsor.

Thanks for the great response so far! We're now accepting applications and taking registration for the National Youth Team's “Competitive Fly Fishing Clinic and Regional Tryouts" that are being held at Hatch Match'r Fly & Tackle in Maple Ridge on the weekend of March 31, 2012. Applicants are asked to write a short essay that highlights their fly fishing experiences on rivers and lakes; species of fish they've caught on a fly; fly fishing techniques they’re familiar with; fly tying abilities; and years of experience as a fly fisher. The essay must also include their birth date, email address, and parent or guardian’s contact information. Please send your essays to Todd Oishi at: todd@bcflyfishingadventures.com

The 2012 Canadian National Youth Fly Fishing Team will be competing at the World Youth Fly Fishing Championships in the Lozčre Region of France; the Canadian National Fly Fishing Championships in Calgary, Alberta; and the America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament in Vail, Colorado.
