Title: Paraffin wax
Post by: Capt. jack on June 09, 2015, 04:30:35 PM
Any one know where I can find paraffin wax? I read online to polish fishing rods with wax to keep them protected.
I have several old rods plus one bamboo fly rod. yes I sometimes like to retro fish.
I wonder if car wax would work too? the natural stuff. can't remember the name, starts with a 'C'...

I waxed my fly rod and I am not sure if the wind was blowing the right direction or it was just the fact that I had a good breakfast but I launced the fly out like it was a bait caster

You should be able to purchase paraffin wax at most grocery stores. It is kept in the canning section. With berry season upon us the shelves should be stocked

Many rod builders give their rods a coat of car wax before shipping to customers.

Carnauba Wax is the base component in many car polishes - check the ingredients listing on the label. Apply a light rub of paraffin wax to the male end of all graphite rod sections to help seat the joint and it will greatly reduce the chance of 2 sections locking together - which has happened to me once or twice.

I'm pretty sure Wicks and Wax sells paraffin wax.

Years ago used to polish rods with spray "pledge" and buff to a great shine after a build.   Used the parafin wax on the ferrules, old school way of keeping the fit between rod sections tight as well as easy to take apart. I still do this to my rods to make them easy to collapse

If you want "Carnauba Wax" buy the candy called NERDS! ;)

That's what it is and you eat it. :o
