Title: Met interesting guy with lots of stories.
Post by: arimaBOATER on May 24, 2016, 07:42:59 PM
As I was having a conversation with a man in Steveston another guy walked up & joined in.
He took over 80% of the conversation.
Was kinda spellbound as he told stories of the past days ...who doesn't like a little history lessons sometimes. His dad who died recently knew the family who started Barry's Bait & Tackle.
Fished together for cohos in the fall.
Think he said his dad was named Charlie.
Then the conversation got into boats as the guy I was talking to originally  was in the market to buy a used boat. ( crab & fish )
So I gave my 2 cents about Arima boats 17 fters & up. At least 1996 year & newer.
Then the guy told about trying to wait out a storm for many days but the weather just would not let up.
So he decided to head out in hurricane force winds with his 17 ft Double Eagle.
Took him 6 hours from Pender Harbour to Vancouver.
He said the waves were monsters. Full throttle to climb the wave & throttle down going down the backslide.
He had a 90 hp & 35 gallons of fuel.
He really loved his dad "big time" & has lots of great times fishing with him.
Father's Day coming up in future.
Take time to enjoy the time spent with your dad while he's still alive!
And yes I too recommend Double Eagle Boats. Hand laid fibreglass hulls like the Arima thus they are built strong. Remember when Double Eagles were built in Richmond.
Think they moved in the Okanagan or SE of BC area.
Rented one once & the boat was very stable.

No.
He did not wear a Leafs Cap. ;D
But he did say he played for a Richmond based hockey team in past years.
Long ways from Leaf country.

I thought Ivan Berry started Berry Baits which has been handed down to his kids and families who still run the show.

You are correct. Ivan has since passed away..
