deep cycle battery charging

im planning to buy a deep cycle battery and electric motor for my canoe.
can i charge the battery by connecting to my car battery with idling?  just same way as  my car battery..
if i can, i wouldnt need to buy two batteries for longer use..
my car is compact and no room for isolator..
need your help..

short answer is "yes", although at idle it will take a while to fill it.  You might condsider just putting it in the car and running it to the fishing hole, then remove the one from the car and put battery number 2 (whch also has some charge in it already) in the car and charge it up on the way home.  put the one with a full charge in the canoe and catch fish, and so on.

My buddy has a portable power pack...its black and red so I would guess its a black and decked.  This thing hooks up to both walll outlets and car cigarrette lighter ports for recharging and I think it supplies a variety of different voltages/amps for a variety of electical devices...if this would run you trolling motor then it would be a way more versitile power source than deep cycle battery.

Found an online retailer with it listed for $89 bucks...can't go wrong at that price.

i think portable power pack doesnt have enough energy to operate trolling motor..

If I read your post correctly, you have room for two batteries in the engine bay of your vehicle and you want to hook up two batteries, one of which will be your trolling battery, in parallel so that your vehicle's alternator charges both batteries while your vehicle is running.  Correct?

If that's true, the yes, you can do that...but as previously stated, depending on how depleted your trolling battery is, you may have to run your vehicle for a long long time.
