Check out my homemade trout lures. I used plasticine from the fabric store and baked them in the toaster for about 10 minutes to harden them. They come in a variety of colours. Some with glitter and you can mix the colours too.
The one with an arrow is a commercially available one( I think it was around $5.00).
The plasticine is about $3/pack and it'll last you forever depending on the size of lures you are making.
I attached a swivel on them and tie them directly to my line. They wobble very well.

One question.....
Will baked plasticine float or sink like a rock?

When I was younger I made trout lures out of beer bottle caps. They actually caught fish.
The Steps:
1. Take a bottlecap off of a beer bottle and pinch the sides together with your fingers. (This step should have the bottlecap looking like a football)
2. Now use a clamp or forceps and pinch the two ends at the points flat.
3. Then take a small size drill bit and drill a hole at each of the flat spots. Make sure to leave enough room in between the edges so it stays strong.
4. Now insert two small split rings (One in each hole)
5. Then add a hook onto one of the split rings.
6. Lastly insert a appropriate size barrel swivel at the other end.
$0.50 lures are awesome. :D
Give them a try. Then when your out in your boat or wherever your fishing and someone asks "Hey, what you get that one on?" Simply reply and say "Oh, just my Kokanee Beer Bottle Lure" They will think your nuts but they don't seem to be catching much if they ask what your using. ;D

The baked plasticine sinks. However, the flat shape and air bubbles trapped inside, cause it to "drift" down like a leaf.
I've caught rainbow trout with em earlier in the spring.
Gonna try Krazy gluing feathers on them like the store bought ones.
Just be careful you don't over bake them or they turn black. Follow the instructions on the plasticine.
They float when overbaked.
