Hey Ray

If you get soft plastics get anything that would resemble a worm. Tube jigs are pretty evective as well. You will have to rig them weedless because fishtrap is very shallow. Top water works pretty well there. Any plugs you can find would be good. When using these make sure you jerk the bait, not a straight reel towards you. The splashing action will get them to strike. Buzz baits are another great choice for topwater. With these you will have to make a continuous reel towards you. I find the darker colors work better. I have often caught them on curlytail grubs as well.

Good luck

I have wanted to try there myself. I have seen some people fishing behind the Judo club. I took my son down to Albert Dyck bass fishing and he caught alot of little guys. But I have heard that they get pretty big in fishtrap. Let us know how you do.

i'd suggest starting off with jig heads and black grubs.
always my go to.  Just work it slowly accross the bottom to elicit some bites.

early morning or early evening are the best times to fish there using any type of top water works good or wake baits

Yep, definitely the topwater action on a warm evening can produce some nice numbers. I pulled a fish out of there last year that was just over six pounds. Buzz bait was my choice at that time (black/purple). My favorite spot to start would be at the South end of the pond. You will see two culverts there. Fish in there with some sort of topwater presentation and you will most likely have success. Work your way around to the North end trying various different locations. The bass are spread out throughout the water. Don't be afraid to try one area with a few different lures, you might be surprised.

Good luck

do we need a boat or we can cast from the shore? thanks :D

You can acess most of the (I call it a small lake) pond from shore. No need to be lugging around a boat to fish there. They have a trail that goes all the way around with ample fishing opportunities.

Can you flyfish it or is it strictly gear fishing

I don't see why not. However it might be tough to get a back cast in most areas of the trail. If you put in a canoe or small boat you might have better success flyfishing.

Ray

I would use a floating mouse pattern. I find that anything that makes a commotion on top of the water will get them to strike. As far as flies I would use a big leach pattern. The bigger the better.

Would a white spinnerbait work? I was there last night walking around behind the Judo club and the water was very low. Is it better on the southside?

Where exactly is Fishtrap Creek?

Maclure and Macallum Road I believe. It is where the two roads meet. Google map them.

Yes a white spinnerbait would work. I prefer the south side. It is a little deeper and also has a little bit more cover on that end.

I went out for an hour yesterday but had no luck. I was on the southside by some culverts.

You don't need much, as the fish are not too big.

An inexpensive spinning rod will do just fine. 6-7' with some #10 mono line and you can use it for pinks, etc.

Amundson makes some reasonabley priced bass rods for beginners so i was wondering if a medium light rod would be ok for fishing around the lowermainland
