We gave Quennell Lake in Nanaimo a go for the first time last weekend. Lovely looking lake, plenty of good bass habitat along the shorelines, but tough fishing. Water clarity was perhaps a foot, which is apparently the norm. We ended up with two fish in 7 hours on the first day, four fish in 8 hours on the second. The size made up for the numbers. All smallmouth bass except two were quite large, in the 2 to 3lb range. The fish on the first day were caught by dragging a tubebait on the bottom in 10 to 15ft of water. On the second day, one smashed a topwater popper, another grabbed a Jackall Necko Flick on a dropshot underneath a floating dock, the other two were caught in the shallows around lillypads.
