I've got a Shimano Calcutta 400b, the guy at the store spooled it up with 60 lb test.
I said it would vbe used mostly on the vedder.
Just wondering because everyone float fishing
Seems to be using 15 lb test. Should I change it out.
If I go with 15 lb it will probably take a lot
Of line to spool up. I currently use a 10 lb fluorocarbon leader
And can cast very far.
Suggestions would be welcome.

You can use the braid for drift fishing, it's just that it is overkill. Also most bobber stops do not work with braid, so you may be stuck with using slip floats.

Also braid will become more of a mess when birdcaged, with mono you can usually just clear it out.

60lb test mono??? The recommended maximum mono test for Calcutta 400B is 20lb test.

If it is mono line at 60lb, i can't see more than 65-70 yards on it. I would not want anything under 130yards on my reels, or ones that I do spool. But that is just personal preference.

Personally I would use 15lb main line, or 20 if your going for kings.

Curious as to which store chose to spool you with that line? I bet I wont be suprised
Id recommend using between 14-20 lb mono for floating the vedder with 8-14 lb leaders depending on conditions and species being targetted. For me, ill be using 20lb trilene since ill be dealing with springs and chum and want to maximize my chances for landing fish in an efficient manner.

No no you must be mistaken, you don't have 60lb mono on your bait caster.

Anyways, got whatever line size it was changed out
For 15# fluorocarbon and using a 10# leader.
Hope this is effective and allows to land fish
Bigger than 15# by chance that I hook up.

What size hook is best for the vedder.
Had one guy tell me a #4 hook.
Seems small to me.
Caught a nice chinook on a 1/0 .

A good all purpose size is #1. Anything in the #4 to 1/0 range is acceptable depending on the conditions and target species.
