Late report but better late than never I suppose.
Left the Grant Narrows dock at 6, boated the lake and biked 10km to my favorite river spot. Fishing by 8. We couldn't have picked a better day, not a cloud in the sky and warm. Every time I hit this river I am taken aback by just how beautiful it is there. The day turned out perfect....half a dozen Sockeye on the fly and a dozen or so Dollies. Here are a few pic's.

Cool! 8)

nice report... those sockeye are so chrome!
nice job ;)
by the way what kind of flies did you normally use while fly fishing
for sockeye?
-
On a hot and humid day like today, the Pitt is the place to be.
-
That Upper Pitts sure looks like the Vedder in the pic. Too bad no access unless you have a boat.

I tried a few flies but as soon as I switched to a heavily weighted black leech the fishing improved sharply. The dollies were taking light brown muddler minnow patterns and purple egg sucking leeches.

Sweet pics Ray!...did you fish your new nautilus?

The Nautilus hadn't arrived by the time I left but at least I retired my Teton on a good note. I am leaving for Tofino on Thursday to fish coho on the fly and can't wait to give the new reel a workout.

great pics, looks like an awesome day too, sweet.

That's so cool that you would ride your bike to get to the fish. You deserve every one of them. :)

Beautiful fish...
Beautiful River

Boy Ray that sure is sweet. Wish I did that before leaving the mainland, it was something I always wanted to do.
Have a great time in Tofino. The fish are quite a ways off shore right now like 22-24 miles of shore. If you can get out there the coho are in thick.

Thanks for the heads up Bryan. I've heard the same thing. I guess I'll have to hope for calm seas or I'll be forced to stay inside.
How has the Island fishing been treating you??

Cant complain ;)

Fished out of Ucluelet and went 22-24 miles off shore. Took about 1.5 hours to get to the spot. Cant wait to hear about your adventure. Maybe next year I will have you over here and take you out. Just have to learn more here first.
