Title: outboard motor repairs
Post by: lucky on May 27, 2005, 04:51:02 PM
while out crab fishing today my motor started acting up, it would idle fine but everytime I gave it gas it would stall out, we managed to get back to shore at a very low speed thank god for that, but now I need to find a good mechanic around vancouver, just wondering if anyone could recommend a good mechanic or marina?? any help would be great.

Can't help you find a mechanic, but you can check out http://www.outboardrepairs.com/ for help diagnosing the problem. If it's carbureted (not EFI) it might be the high speed jet is plugged due to some dirt in the fuel (just a wild guess).

Anyway, you can use that site to do a reality check on what your mechanic tells you.

What make of engine and year? More info on it would be good. Could possibly be a broken reed or cracked reed block. I had the same thing happen to me.

thanks for the replies, the engine is a mid 90's johnson 20hp, havent gotten it looked at yet but am thinking of taking it to lordship marine because they are fairly close to home, but will probably charge an arm and leg.

My brother swears by Lordship. We're in White Rock and he takes his boat there.
