I guess posting my drift net and dynamite is not a good idea.
-
how do those calcutta reals handle they look like they have alot of plastic parts on them.
-
DS, those unknown old fishing reels you got from your grandpa look rather interesting... They are metallic, but the shape is like.... a question mark... ???

The line spools around the little ball at the bottom, and you hold it by the curve of the so called "Question Mark" ::)

There's something up with with those baitcasters! They have all got the handles on the wrong side!! ;D
Alright if you cast with your left arm but cast with your right arm means doing the old right-left shuffle with the rod??
Could never get my head round that one! ???
Colin ::)
-
Learn to cast from both sides. I'm right handed and I can cast both left and right depending on the situation. It's not difficult to learn.
-
Rod, I can see your problem you don't have any kids to spend your money on!!! ;) :-\
-
I forgot to add my newest addtion:
BFR Dragonfly Kamloops #5

abu spinning reel. with a Berkley 7' 6" rod
cheap quantum spinning rod and reel for wife if she comes out.
old ambassador 7000 on a Berkley Canada specialist bar rod.

3 sth 567 weight reels. Dragon fly 6 weight rod
and the newest rod a temple forks 8 weight professional 6 piece rod bought on ebay.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a reel to match this rod
-
Definetly my favourite, works great for for those hard to handle fish ;D (7MM REM MAG)
-
FF, nice gun.. I got the same gun as you but mine in a 300 win mag. CF, what a expensive shell you shooting, 308 Norma Mag are like $80/box...But being said that, i'm thinking a Weatherby Mark V 338 Wby Mag..
-
aYup CF, Weatherby's DO burn more powder. And that's one of the many many reasons I love my old German made 300 ;D
Back to the topic...
I've got literally more rods 'n reels than any guy should have, but nearly all of them see a fair amount of use each year. Here's but a few of the collection:
EonPro Saltwater series on 10' noodle rod with a nice steely doe:
Islander Steelheader on Custom 12' Rogue
(http://gallery.fishbc.com/albums/Tracks/Rogue_s_First.jpg)
The same with a nice sea-run cutt (liked the cutt shot, so decided to through it up here too)
1926 circa Goite Reel on 10' noodle:
The balance of my river arsenal includes 3 Abu elevelwinds (2 x 6501, 1 x 5501), 2 Shimano levelwinds, and a host (like 30 or so) spinning reels.
Fly gear: an 8 weight Sage for salmon & steel, and a sweet little 5 weight for everything else.
Of course I consider my boats to be "Weapons of Mass Destruction" ;)
The Surf Scooter:
Which can often be seen running six rods, all light spinning gear for sox, and Shimano moochers or Peetz for the biggies...
And my 24' Sea Ray aptly titled Dream Weaver:
She has so many rods 'n reels onboard, I'm almost afraid to count them ;D
Salt spinning gear, moochers, jigging set-ups and more, She has proven to be quite the fisher this fall, and I am more than pleased with her!
I'm certain there's a few I'm leaving out, too many to recall. One glimpse into the fishing room helps tell the story ;)
aYup, about as well organized as everything else in my life :D ::) ;D
Cheers,
Nog

Interesting Goite reel you have there IronNoggin. How much would that reel sell for these days ?
-

You can still get the odd deal on them (I have 4 functioning, one for parts) IF you watch for them (eBay). Usually takes some looking, as there is a group of US Collectors that are all over them. Lowest I've seen was ~ 50 clams, highest over 200!!
I've used mine for sox and even springs this year (DICEY on the springs!!) running them like moochers, and a handfull of steelhead last year running it like an archaic centerpin. Quite the hoot fighting fish with what appears to be a clothesline pully ;D
Cheers,

Iron Noggin, that goite also matches the bicycle wheel down rigger on your scooter. Very fashionable accessorizing. I know a guy I think still has a couple of them there auminum wheeler down rigger units if you need some severely oxidized alum parts. Does yours have a depth counter. His doesnt.
-
Hey and Hi OneDog,
ayup, I do have this liking for running archaic, often antique gear. It's more effort, but usually translates to big time FUN!
Although I have a spare set of those bicycle wheel down rigger (Luhr Jensens) for the Scooter, I'm always interested in seeing more. If you have a moment, maybe take some pix of the rigger(s) your buddy has and fire them off to me via email. Also let me know what he might want out of them. Yes, all of mine have counters, none awfully reliable though... best method is to count her down, 2 feet a rotation ;)
Cheers,
Nog
