My first time fishing the Vedder about 15 years ago.  I was fishing up at tamahi with roe and hooked  and landed a nice mint bright coho.  I promptly released it.  A few minutes later I hooked and landed and released another.  The guy fishing next to me was perplexed and asked me why I released such nice fish.  I said I thought you weren't allowed to keep wild steelhead in this river!  I guess I couldn't believe that salmon could be so bright in the river (my other previous fishing trip on a river was fishing for dark springs on the Stamp).  I wised up pretty quickly and bonked the next coho I hooked.

That being said...you can't exactly keep wild Coho either ;)  (Perhaps you could back then)

You could back then.  I think the hatchery only rule did not come into effect until the late 90's

There were far fewer white springs back then and the coho seemed to be way more aggressive on roe.

Just to clarify a few things in Rodneys version of the story: I did not shake my head, I nodded!  ::)

I remember getting back from the washroom and seeing the boat and Rodney gone. At first I thought he was just playing a joke on me hiding somewhere, because he wouldn’t leave without me, right? Wrong! I looked over the lake and saw this small dot way out in the horizon looking unmistakable like Rodney and so I realized he had left without me! What a jerk! So, yeah, I got a bit angry, jumped in the nearest boat I could find (I think I woke up the people sleeping on the dock on the way out too ... :-[ …) and rowed as fast as I could to where Rodney was fishing and started yelling at him. Poor Rodney, at first he was happy and surprised to see me out on the water, that is, until I opened my mouth. I have already apologized many times for the things I called him that morning but then again I had to pull his a** all the way back to shore  ::)  ;D

When we went back out again we tried to stay mad at each other but it is hard to stay angry when you are catching fish left and right   ;D  ;)  :-*

Of course, how else is she going to catch fish? ;)

And, it was definitely a shake, not a nod...

While fishing a busy bar during sockeye season I was casting and accidentaly hooked the top section of my backup rod and flung it into the river, as it was flying by I put the brakes on the reel so that it landed about 20 feet from shore. Without hesitation I dropped the rod and dove head first into the river, everyone around was probably thinking what the heck is that guy doing? well I surfaced with the section of rod held high and scrambled up onto the shore, a very close save, if I had waited a second more the rod would of been lost.

Reminded me of the time two years ago during pink season when a guy had his spoon hung up in the Fraser. After tugging at it for a while in a vain attempt to dislodge the lure, he proceeded to jump into the river to retrieve it. He was unsuccessful in the murky water.

I desided i was going to floss chums with my brand new 5ft graphite rod(you can guess how that one ended up). I also (on more than one occasion) while fishing northern pike reached my hand down its throught to get the hook out, god that hurt.
