coho and chum at furry creek
« on: October 04, 2009, 12:16:57 AM »

i know that the squamish river and mamquam get coho and chum. i am interested in knowing if you can fly fish for them with some success in salt water at furry creek? had some success this year with the pinks there but not sure about other species.

Thank you in anticipation

I know your new here but it has not even been 24 hours since you posted this. Dont rely on others to provide you with information. Just go out and find out for yourself. Wouldnt you get more satisfaction from finding out for yourself? Even if you get a goose egg who cares you still got to get out and enjoy the day. If fishing was only about catching fish I would go and fish at a trout hatchery.

Sorry rhino I couldn't resist.......chum from what I understand go up the far deep side of the sound. Coho are up this system in relatively small numbers so you might get one you might not but that is why we fish.

thanks Derek. im not looking for a home run. just some info. If there is a slight chance to get a fish i am down for it.i was just interested in maybe connecting with a chum or coho in the salt. im not a meat fisher, just enjoy fishing a lot and would rather go with some info then no info. I will probably chuck some flies in the salt and also go up to the river as well. they are pretty close so its easy.

if i have any success i will report.

cheers

Furry Creek is gong show every other year because the word got spread around online, on the radio etc etc that pinks can be caught from the beach there if conditions are right.  I've never heard of anyone catching chum and i think its pretty rare that people catch coho off the beach there, but if it were good, I sure as hell hope that no one would go and post it up online and have another Vedder River North happen at Furry Creek.  I'd suggest you go give your own hunches a test (its a beautiful province if for no other reason) and then, if you do find a gem near this city of 2 million, be rather careful who you tell about it.

Best suggestion would be to talk to guys out on the water or attend stuff like the Vedder River Cleanup ( a couple weeks ago... but there will be more).  Meet people in person and they'll be likely to share info.
