Title: Fred's Web Site Down
Post by: chris gadsden on March 01, 2012, 01:24:02 PM
Some of you may have been wondering why there has been no updates on Fred's Custom Tackle Facebook page and Wally Hall Junior Memorial Steelhead Derby. While in buying some Owner hooks a few minutes ago Chuck said the computer system will be down until Monday at the earliest. That means you will have to check FWR for updates on river conditions  etc. ;D ;D

I guess its not gas prices that are keeping the river not so busy..

I found it quite funny too. It's an interesting experiment for social media. I fished the other day in prime weather, fall-like temperature and A1 river conditions, seeing only a handful of other anglers all day long. I guess report chasers assume there are no fsh in the river if there are no recent hero shots in front of the shop, haha  :D

why don't you buy DNE hooks? they are basically like those owner hooks (kinda blade-like) but they are 4 dollars cheaper...............

I have had a lot of problems with brittleness with DNE hooks, especially with the Siwash parts where the eye breaks on as many as 50% of hooks using an identical crimping process to Matzuo or Mustad hooks. Similar problems with crimping barbs, which isn't fatal but is annoying.

You get what you pay for.  ::)

Think about it this way, you've never caught a steelhead and have put in long hard hours in search of your first fish. Now imagine the disapointment after you hook up with your first fish only to loose it after a few headshakes. You think to yourself, perhaps that fish would have stayed on your line if only you hadn't cheaped out and bought the good hooks.

AMEN !!

I only use Owners (red and gunmetal black) for steelhead unless i run out then its gammies, I tend to use gammies (red) mostly for salmon fishing though  ???

HOOK - doesnt want to lose fish due to crappy hooks  >:(

I have hooked and landed a dozen coho in a day using DNE hooks without problems. But like others have said, Gammies and owner are probably the two best if you're worried about hooks failing on you

Maybe it's the hookset and not the hook  :P
