St. Mary's Lake
« on: April 29, 2009, 09:15:31 PM »

Hi everyone, booked a 4 day camping trip to salt spring island at the end of may.  Any suggestions in slaying the bass this time of year?  Got some jigs and spinners but don't know how deep the fish holding.  Anyways will post fish porn after ;D

They should be in tight at this time. Work the shoreline as well as the drop offs. Water temps will not be high enough to put them into deep water. May until the end of June should be very good for shallow water fishing for them.

Tubes and rubber worms are my favorites ( when not using the fly that is )

Dont forget that its also a very good trout fishery. The trout wont be where the bass are.

I love that lake. Plan on taking my kids there for a long weekend in the summer. Its only a 5 minute ferry ride from my home.

In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

Derp, I can't go in the next two months so I didn't organize a group trip, but you should go. ;) Last time I talked to Mark at Lakeside Gardens, it sounds like July and August are just about fully booked but May and June are still quite available (better fishing in these two months anyway).

It really depends on the temperature of the lake. Most likely the bass will be in the shallows, so will the trout. Spinners always work great, probably the easier way to catch them but there are other more exciting ways to get them. You should look into getting some surface crankbaits, poppers as these bass will be very active on striking anything sitting on the surface. The takes are quite explosive.

Has anyone here stayed at Cedar Shores or Green Acres cabins? I've heard they supply boats to overnight guests and would like to know if they are worth using or should I bring my inflatable. Also,if using their boats do they come equipped with electric motors? I could phone and ask but i'm cheap and also don't need to give Shaw anymore $ than they are already squeezing out of me,especially when there is USUALLY,lol, such good advice from this forum.

Green Acres-well kept cabins pricey but very quiet the quietest place on the lake bar none-aluminum boats no idea about motors but I doubt they're free.

Cedar Beach-haven't been for ages they have some great little cabins very dark under all those trees website looks poor.
Reviews here are so/so

BTW-If you want more info they both have websites and email-it's free! ::)
