Title: bear for my buddy
Post by: BCHunter on June 15, 2009, 04:00:53 PM
my buddy Trevor wasnt having any luck finding a bear since the opening so i took him out and found him a nice old boar.

On our drive in Friday evening my buddy planned to start his Saturday morning hunt in a where we see lots of bear sign,,,i choose to road the hounds in hope of a strike.

From 6am-9am i got not a peep out of the hounds so i went back to camp and sleep til 11am and headed out again. Shrotly after leaving the hounds filled the mnts with baying so released them and the hunt was on!

They treed this boar in the ugliest down hill one could ever dream of!!!

Nice bear, anybody that has chased hounds for hours with snowshoes or on dry ground, know that bears are not treed 20 yards from the pickup!  Dang thats fun though.  Southpa

I am also not a hunter. I can only imagine how hard it would be to chase after those dogs, and just wondering for curiosity's sake what do you do with your meat? Do you make a rug with the hide? And if your interested in telling where were you hunting there? Just wondering? thanks

thread cleaned up.

No need for name calling and insults. The bear and cat hunting "ethics" have been discussed already.

How the hell you get that thing back up the slope?

Nice bear, I  have always wanted to go hunting but never had anyone to teach me.
What would be a good rifle to learn to soot with?

I think the .308 is a good all round rifle. Easy to find a wide variety of ammo, minimal recoil and it will handle most game outside of a grizzly or bison.

I started with a .270 win and its a very good deer rifle... has no problem knocking down moose at 200 yards!  .30-06 are also very common and good for most big game animals.  .308 is a fairly heavy gun but its great for long shots!  just depends how comfortable you are with rifles and what you plan on hunting.
