You should be able to land any fish using 1563 model.

loomis rods are ridiculously over priced....I would look at building a rod...there are tons of reasonably priced blanks out there like rainshadow, st croix, lamiglas etc...you will get exactly the rod you want too, as personally the glx rods are not tied very nice and the sliding rings suck

I have been fishing this style of rod since the mid 90's actually I have had 6 different 13ft rods from several manufactures.
I did pick up a GLX 1563 late in the season and I must say it is the nicest 13 ft rod that I have fished to date.

I have had no issues with the sliding rings, they hold very well and the rod that I have was tied and finished very well also.
This is a great float rod for Steelhead if you like this style of rod. Personally I do recommend it.

i didn't like how it casted (the 1563).. a little too stiff for me compared to my 3113mb. but that's just me.. you might like a little stiffer, faster action rod

Know that if u strip the rod down, it voids the warranty.

NO WAY is the 1563 stiffer than a 3113MB, the 1563 is a thinner rod and lighter line rating and although it has a fast tip it would seem like a noodle to most that use a similar rod to a Sage 3113MB. The GLX 1563 has enough backbone for any steelhead but I would definitely not use it for chinooks. I use the factory rod but will mostly strip it down hoping to have it customized by next steelhead season.

that's just what it feels like to me. just sayin..

In fact if you Break the altered section it is void. If you changed the grip and broke the tip, they would send you back a tip. If you broke the altered butt section you are outta luck.  This has been my experience. Twice

Ok just in case there could possibly be a misunderstanding here, what i meant by stiffer is that the 1563 has a faster action, which i said the first time. i didn't mean stiff as in it had more backbone.. maybe poor choice of words on my part. said differently, i didn't like how the 1563 casted because it's a faster action than my 3113. hope this clears it up

It is actually  not. I'm looking to replace reel seat and sent this email to warranty department:

I'm looking to buy GLX 1563 centerpin rod but don't like sliding reel seat. I can ask professional rodbuilder to put fixed reel seat but not sure if rod will still be under warranty.
Could you please advice what should I do.

This is a response:

The warranty on the reel seat will be void, but the rest of the rod will be covered. If the rod fails in this area because of the modification then we will void the warranty.
