Independent candidate Vicky Huntington was declared the winner in Delta South today, defeating B.C. Liberal attorney-general Wally Oppal by 32 votes.


Huntington, a long-time councillor, received 9,977 votes to Oppal's 9,945.

Elections B.C. official Kenn Faris said the vote will automatically go to a judical recount because it is under a 50-vote margin.


"So it's in the hands of the B.C. Supreme Court now or will be after the application is made."

The Gorden Campbell news network had Keith Baldry on Wednesday at noon and said he may get a senate seat, stay on as AG even though not an MLA or seek a by election... regardless if he does end up losing I am sure El Gordo will find him a plum position.

Well, maybe this gives some credence to having to live in a riding if you choose to run in it, stop the parachuting, there is no real motivation to serve the members of the constituency. Seems to me if you want to represent a riding, you SHOULD be living there as a member of the community. I am actually surprised the Liberals did as well as they did in this riding, given their pre-election actions in this area. Maybe Wally buddy should have parachuted into Point Grey  :D

Voter turnout was at 23% of the population. Democracy is going on a downhill slide.
