Kid friendly Lower Mainland spot for Pinks - suggestions please
« on: September 05, 2013, 10:43:51 AM »

Hi - new to the forum and somewhat new to fishing in BC.  Took my 6 year old out with some friends with local knowledge to a spot on Annacis Island on the weekend, but found it all a bit too slippery rocky and treacherous for her to wet her line.  Any suggestions on places in the LM (coming from Port Moody) that would be not too busy and hazardous and let my little one see if she can land her first salmon?  Thanks in advance!

Most spots along the Fraser River are lined with rocks which are indeed slippery at low tide. The easiest time to fish these spots is when the tide is high, but then you will often be dodging oncoming waves by boats. Further into the valley, you can find some spots where beaches with gradual slopes are available. Derby Reach Park is one of them. Further east, try the bars just downstream from Mission-Abbotsford Bridge, on Abbotsford side. Both can be productive when pink salmon are moving through. In Richmond, you can also try MacDonald Beach and Dump Bar behind No. 6 Road.

Derby Reach Park is large and lots of gravel/sand bar for kids. There are also picnic tables and walking trails. Even with a rain shelter type of building just in case it rains.
