Title: Fish for the Future 2006
Post by: Rodney on May 10, 2006, 01:07:48 PM
Ok, after a few months of getting the preparation done, this year's Fish for the Future has been finalized. The event will be on Saturday July 8th between 10:00am and 3:00pm at London's Landing, Steveston. We would like to welcome all the parents to bring their kids out to fish for the day and enjoy all the educational activities (insect id, fish id, fly tying, flycasting, games, arts and crafts, water safety, etc). Limited number of fishing equipment will be provided for those who do not have any.

The official event website is launched: http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fftf/

Please circulate the information to those who maybe interested.

This year's event does not coincide with BC Family Fishing Weekend but we do have its support. The event actually falls in the National Fishing Week so we are also supported by them. Most are unfamilar with the national Fishing Week as it is based in Ontario.

Feedbacks please, on the website and event.

I am still working with DFO and the City of Richmond to have a fishing information kiosk installed on that day.

Volunteers are needed as usual. Thanks to those who helped out last year, I hope you will join us again. We need people on the day to set up, help the kids with fishing, write up licences, organize gear, supervise activities, flycasting demo (floon? ;) ), flytying instruction, etc. I also welcome any assistance on pre-event work such as promotion (putting up posters at rec centres, etc). Please email me at info@fishingwithrod.com if interested.

This is the forth annual event. Last year it was very well attended. This year's event takes place during the beginning of the school holiday, I hope to see more people out. :)

Still looking for a few more people for licence write-up, fly tying, etc. Floon is now unable to do the flycasting demo, so if someone else would like to do it, please let me know.

* Edited - Flycaster found, newsman has volunteered for the day. :)

Just a brief update.

Gibbs Fishing will be at the event with a huge display of lures that are commonly used in BC. Kids casting contest will be held next to this booth. There will be free goodies!

In the same area, Seymour Salmonid Society will have an aquarium of juvenile coho salmon on display, as well as a large display that outlines the society's goals and past accomplishments.

Orphaned Wildlife (OWL) from Ladner will be showcasing their birds of prey. Come up-close and personal with some of BC's most beautiful hawks and eagles.

Burns Bog Conservation Society will also have a booth. they will show you what you can expect to see if you join one of their guided tours.

I got other activities planned as well. They will be posted once finalized. :)

Still need volunteers. :)

Yes, that would be great too! Let your friends know that they would not need to volunteer all the time during the event, plenty of activities for you guys to participate in too.

Hi Dave, you're very welcome to join us but it maybe quite out of the way just for an hour of work, and we are pretty good with set-up, just need more assistance during the event. :) :-\

Dan, sounds good. We'll be in touch during the week before the event. :)

ok ;D but um just one question...these count as volunteer hours rite? meaning that they'll be sent to our school and into our file?

I'm sorry, you have used up your question quota for the year. ;D ;D ;D This is why I do not wish to be a high school teacher. :P ;D

Anyways, yes, they would count as volunteer hours, you guys just need to let me know what I need to do to tally them up (give me papers to sign, etc?). We'll sort that out after the event. I won't disappear from the air after you put in the hours, I promise. ;D
