The fight in that thing was unreal.
Had it in my hands 4 times before I got a pic, just kept kicking loose. Surprised I even got a pic... hook wasn't hanging on by much at the end of things.

Thought it was a steelhead at first after we had hit 3 others in the run, but when we got it to hand it clearly wasn't.
Every fin had a white tip, definitely not in the summer run or winter run shape (was a big time football) and the colouring just wasn't right.
Was a hatchery but let her live to swim another day.

Other bright side of the day... girlfriend's first winter steelhead, first trip out, completely on her own while I fished the tailout:

She sure has caught the bug quickly. Nice work turned her into quite the fisher.

The only thing I could really see wrong might be the gloves. Other than that it looks good, knot free net, water dripping from the fish to indicate it hasn't been out of the water forever and it's being held correctly (no fingers in gill plates). The State of Washington actually has regulations on some rivers where wild steelhead are not allowed to leave the water, so I'd say they're more strict in regards to fish handling. That is something I think we should adopt up here but have it say "Any fish that is not going to be retained must not leave the water."
