“They lost three of their farm sites due to ISA, and there’s some public compensation for that, but it’s never enough to recover, or hasn’t been for them,” said Cyr Couturier, executive director of the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association."

PUBLIC COMPENSATION?

More like corporate welfare. What a disgraceful waste of tax dollars. Read deep folks and see how the feedlots are living off of YOUR money. Any small business owners here? Would you get the same consideration or is it sink or swim?

Ouch is right Chris. I feel for the workers as I did for the fishermen back in the early 90s. :(
"It also provided participants with regular weekly payments ranging from $211 to $382. Although the federal government intended TAGS to remain active until 1999, the $1.9-billion program ran out of funds in May 1998."

Nice defection attempt there, Bob.

How many more of these $70 million payouts by government before they realize fish farming is not cost effective in Canada.

I guess you are right Easywater. Although I still feel for the people and hate to see them go through hard economic times a second time there. :(

I don't mind if fishermen get paid, I do mind if out of country corporations get paid with my tax dollars.

Any company not from Canadian soil. We are an exceedingly wealthy nation and I can see no reason why we need increasingly allowing foreign ownership of Canada and it's resources, but giving it away as well as shoveling money at them is a disgrace.

Looks like we have a lot of back tracking to do including what I invested in American born Morton. :(
