Title: Why Do We Use Green Line Almost Exclusively?
Post by: Sam Salmon on August 27, 2006, 07:32:54 PM
A (non-fishing) friend was commenting on how hard it was to find clear fishing line-she wanted clear so she could hang something in her shop window.

That got me to thinking-why do we like Green line so much here in BC?

Both Salt @ Fresh it's hard to get people away from the colour Green-why do you think that is?

Clear line is hard to see above water, and the green line blends in nicely IN the water.  my $0.02 :)

Because the manufacturers only know how to make green line.   :D I like DS's explanation.

I buy the cheap stuff and guess what ...it's blue. So if you can come down off your high horse, you can have blue line.

What about Maxima Crystal Ivory which is Clear-or Jinkai which is Blue and never ever cheap anywhere?

Personally I fish a lot of places where water is nowhere near Green but the explanation about seeing the stuff above water makes some sense.

I dont know if you've looked in the ocean lately, but its pretty green ;). There are ton's of fishing lines out there that are clear. About 1/2 of the lines we carry in our shop are clear.

Trilene XL
Stren
SA, tippet
P Line Fluoroclear

just to name a few. Ultragreen is the most popular, because it is under rated and therefore "stronger" then most other lines.

DS's explanation seems to make the most sense...maybe why people seem to have more green line rather than clear is because good clear line is more expensive...is this true? i dont keep up with my fishing line $...

On tidal waters, I use 'Cajun' or 'Cajun Lightning' (Red) exclusively.  I like it because it is easy to see and I think red is cool because it is different from what everyone else is using.
